Walk Score

Stumbled onto an interesting mash-up site.

You put in your address and it gives you a score out of 100 indicating how walkable your neigbourhood is.

I live in a rural area and got a very low score of 8 out of 100.

What is your "Walk Score"? Find out at www.walkscore.com

Cute, but not at all accurate. I scored much better (nearly 60) but it counted the convenience store as a grocery store, listed morgans grant woods as a park (okay...maybe...but not my idea of one when you can walk across it in two minutes--but i'll grant it that). The library was some Jewish Children's Library 15 kms away. Um? No, I don't think that counts. And for fitness sources near by it picked Prolates - a very very expensive and limited fitness club. Mmmmm... I think my actually rating was just a wee bit closer to yours Ron. Probably about a 20.

I believe that walk score is cool, but nowadays more and more people prefer to drive cars. Homes are often located in an area where some establishments are easier to get to by car than on foot. I've recently found a type of service on drivescore.fizber.com which is called Drive Score. It shows a map of what establishments are in your neighborhood and calculates a Drive Score based on the number of places within a convenient driving distance. It doesn’t mean that drive score is better than walk score – they are equal and both necessary in the modern world!
