First Green MP!

Blair Wilson has decided to become Canada's first Green MP.

Blair Wilson, an embattled former Liberal MP who was expelled from his party's caucus last year over allegations of improper spending, announced on Saturday that he was joining the team of Green Party Leader Elizabeth May.

May called it a historic day for her party and said it would ensure that she could participate in the leaders' debates in the next election campaign.

What Planet is Gloria on?

From the Guelph Mercury:
Kovach used the familiar Conservative refrain that the party is getting things done for Canadians "after 13 years of Liberal inaction."

"I can tell you that under the Conservative government, in two and a half years, we have a stronger, safer, healthier Canada," she said.

In the past two and a half years, the economy is sliding, people are losing their jobs in Ontario. Under conservative government in the last two and a half years people are dying due to food poisoning, and it comes out that government is now letting food producers inspect themselves.

I don't know about you Mrs. Kovach, but you must be living on another planet if you think that the last two and half years of conservative mismanagement has resulted in anything but a weaker, more dangerous Canada.

CMM Joint GPO/GPC CA/EDA AGM

That's a lot of acronyms.

CMM - Carleton Mississippi Mills
GPO - Green Party of Ontario
GPC - Green Party of Canada
CA - Constituency Association (Provincial term)
EDA - Electoral District Association (Federal term)
AGM - Annual General Meeting

This year the provincial and federal Green Party associations for CMM decided to work as a unit and we elected a unified executive. Except for CEO and financial, which we have kept separate for each association.

Outside of an election, the AGM is the time when we renew the hardcore volunteers and try and plant the seeds of strategy for the next year.

Financial reports for the year were given for GPO and GPC.

Jim McKenzie gave a nice analysis of the last provincial election.

John Hogg gave a presentation on the campaign plan for the next federal election.

Jake Cole talked about his views on when the federal election might happen and what it will take to win.

John Ogilvie gave a summary of the GPO AGM.

Jeannie Warnock and Mark MacKenzie the GPO Eastern Ontario representatives on the GPO council gave us an update the state of the GPO.

Mark MacKenzie closed out our meeting with a presentation about the recent Global Greens conference in Brazil.

We had guest speakers.
